I believe entrances are important: they are our first experience of a space. I like them to be a surprise, a delight, a respite from the urban rush.

This is a foyer detail from a Fifth Avenue apartment that has wonderful views of Central Park.  The Gingko leaves were collected in the park by the artist Leslie Enders Lee who then made templates of the leaves, affixed them to the Venetian plaster background and then bronzed them.  It's as if the leaves just arrived on a gentle breeze through an open window.
